In 2009 Second Lt. Alix Schoelcher Idrache came to the U.S. from Haiti with his family led by his Father who was searching for better opportunities.
Idrache ended up joining the Maryland National Guard and left to attend West Point in 2012. He is now the Maryland Army National Guard’s first West Point graduate.
Newly commissioned 2nd Lt. Alix Schoelcher Idrache, became the Maryland Army National Guard’s first United States Military Academy, also known as West Point, graduate on May 21, 2016.
Idrache, originally from Haiti, graduated at the top of his class in physics and will attend Army Aviation school at Fort Rucker, Alabama.
Lt. Idrache stated that people from where he is from do not grow up to become pilots.
“You don’t just say I’m going to be a pilot and make it happen. There’re no aviation, there’re no helicopters, no flight schools. There’re none of that.”
Well thanks for proving that wrong Sir.
Thanks for being an exemplary symbol of achievement.
