In January of this year, a group of militant militia members staged an armed takeover of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. During the incident they threatened to kill officials, incited insurrection, destroyed the property, and even invited others of like-mind to join them.
The standoff led to the shooting death of one protester by police and left millions of dollars in damage to the refuge, much of it from bunkers and trenches built by the heavily armed occupiers.
The six men and one woman on trial were charged with conspiracy to impede federal officers through intimidation, threats or force, as well as possession of firearms in a federal facility and theft of government property.
The government accused the leader of the occupation, Ammon Bundy, and his six followers on trial with him of engaging in a lawless scheme to seize federal property by force during the standoff.
Each of the accused faced up to six years in prison if convicted of conspiracy alone.
On Wednesday, a federal court jury acquitted the anti-government militant leader Ammon Bundy and six followers.
The group was found not guilty of the charges of conspiracy, property theft, and firearms charges.
This sets a horrific precedent for anyone that feels that they can assert their will at the end of a barrel. The Drumpf followers are a prime example of the danger that could present itself. They have suggested that a second revolution is necessary and they’ve now been shown that armed insurrection is officially legal.
Native Americans in North Dakota are being attacked by law enforcement and even by aggressive dogs for trying to defend their rights and the land. They are being arrested and charged.
What is the difference here…?
Someone should have planned better and armed each and every one of those people properly.
But…Wait…Would the outcome be the same?
Colin Kaepernick is being berated and threatened with death for protesting by KNEELING QUIETLY for the roughly two minutes that is takes to sing a song.
The indefensible truth that is once again illustrated by this decision is that a person of color could not survive 40 seconds with a gun – REAL or FAKE- trained on cops or government officials let alone prosper for 40 days and come out of it all innocent!
