A sign established as a memorial to the life of Emmit Till has been desecrated in  Money, Mississippi.

Till was a 14 year old boy that was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by cowardly white racist adults in 1955.

J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant, the two white men charged with killing Til were acquitted of the crime, though they later bragged about kidnapping and murdering the Chicago native.

In 2007, eight signs were erected by the Emmett Till Memorial Commission to mark locations key to his last days.

As of Dec 2013, the sign had been vandalized with more than a dozen bullet holes.

As recently as Oct 2016, the number of bullet holes has grown to over 50.

According to the New York Daily News, the Emmett Till Interpretive Center is attempting to raise $15,000 to replace the damaged sign.

This seems to have become the site to visit if your intent is to ritually exercise racial disdain.

It has been 61 years…

It’s incredibly difficult to progress in the face of ignorance so profound that it is not only oblivious to the wrongness of it,  it celebrates the murder of a CHILD.

So, in a period of 9 years, this memorial sign intended to be a permanent reminder of the callous hatred and bigotry that was freely expressed in the murder of a child has been allowed to be defiled repeatedly without counteraction.

 

Obviously, the only thing that has not changed much is the reminder that callous hatred and bigotry is still free to be expressed without counteraction.
